Databases

The definition of databases is “a structured set of data held in a computer, especially one that is accessible in various ways.” Databases are useful to store lots of data in an organised way making data easy to find. Sites like Amazon use databases to store data about millions of users while football teams might use it to analyse performance. They are also used to predict upcoming events like the weather. They do this by judging recent data and then therefore predicting a trend in the data, these are called software models.

Database software includes off-the-shelf software such as Microsoft Access or Oracle. These do exactly the right thing and have lots of customer support however it is a general program. The alternative of this is programming your own database by using something like Visual Basic, this means you can create and use it however you want.
